Butterfly Season
Butterfly season,
Every June after all the flower babies are in the ground and before they bloom my daughter and I head off on our annual mother daughter camping trip. This year we went to Chena Hot Springs just outside of Fairbanks. The weather was wonderful and warm, the hot springs refreshing but what stands out and what we marveled at was all the butterflies so many in fact June should be called butterfly season in Alaska. They were so thick they would sadly fly into our windshield. My favorite however was when the butterflies were drinking water from the ground by the outdoor potable water station. When you’d get close they would all fly up and around you until you’d pass. Even our dog seemed to enjoy them and never even tried to bite at them.
When we left for our trip the weather had been nasty and windy for days, the flower babies were fine. The pumpkins where beat up but have lots of new leaves now so I think they are going to be just fine. Now the weeding has stared. After I write this I’ll be heading out to finish the first round. We use landscape fabric so weeding is minimal but still needs to be done. Normally/ thankfully just having to weed the gardens 2 or 3 times a season.
Farm Updates:
We should see our first flower blooms by the end of the week for which as you know I’m super excited about.
We have a handful of weddings on the books, the Palmer and Wasilla Business flower subscriptions are full and our two Flower Farms Tours, Dinner and workshops are sold out. I’d say a pretty great start to the season.
We also want to open up Eagle River for our business flower subscriptions. We need 5 businesses to make this happen. Give us a call if you’d like a subscription. 907-232-4580.
Now our Anchorage customers can order our flowers though the Alaska Food Hub along with Alaska Grown Veggies. For more information go to https://www.AlaskaFoodHub.org
And lastly, we are super excited to have our very first ADU swag bags. Perfect for taking to market or the grocery store. Will be available for purchase soon.
Now let’s bring on some more sunshine so we can get our bloom on!
