Book Signing Party to Celebrate Flower Farming in Alaska

When Debra Prinzing, co-author of the Flower Farmers reached out this is what she asked.

“Hi Misty, since my mom and I will already be up there, when it’s convenient for you, let’s discuss whether you want to turn the August 16th dinner into an optional book event? I’d love to make it a party for you and your inclusion in The Flower Farmers.”

Though a bit apprehensive, my mind was already racing with ideas. I knew I wanted a full on party and not be “a part” of the annual August dinner. It needed to be its “own” thing.

The rub is August-September on the farm is crazy full, planned months in advance. Adding one more thing needs to be seriously considered. I wasn’t sure if it was doable without changing the original plan.

So I made the decision to cancel our July event and the Flower Retreat to make room for my party vision of people, books in hand strolling through the sweet pea tunnel.

Next I called Julianne at Alaska Berry n Board for the charcuterie grazing table. I mean what’s a party without food? Then I contacted our event photographer, Kim Landry to capture the day.

For me one of the best parts about my feature in the book The Flower Farmers is sharing about growing the flower that soothed me during the most heart wrenching months of my life after the loss of my son.

The flower that proved to me that “flower power” is real. For me, the magic of Flower Power is what it’s all about.

I love to create high-touch flower & food experiences. I want people to “feel” what the power of flowers can do and what they are within a package carefully curated to assist in the flow.

When you peel back all the layers of my life on my flower farm journey, basking in the magic of the blooms is always one of the goals. The other is sharing Alaska in a very unexpected and unique way, hence the dinners and other tours we offer here on the farm.

I wanted the book signing party to be no different. Since my feature within the book is also about the Dahlia flower. Naturally I had to incorporate a talk about dahlias actually IN and amongst the 2000 dahlias we grow.

When our party goers, books in hand started strolling through the sweet pea tunnel with dreamy faces the sun decided to grace the afternoon.

The highlight for me was, Debra being here on the farm, signing books side-by-side along with my beloved flower farming community is one I’ll never forget.

Please enjoy the book signing party and dahlia tour through Kim’s photos.

The day was magic.
