Trending Now, Floral Wellness…

Those first dahlia blooms that lined my windowsill after the passing of my son, created a need in me of really wanting to share the feelings of wellbeing and peace flowers brought me in the throes of my mother’s grief. I wanted to share their magic in any way that I could. This included farming cut-flowers commercially.
I’ve taken the stage to speak about flower power. Have had a handful of years with sold-out dinner tours with long waiting lists, an annual flower school not to mention sold-out farmers market after, market, happy flower subscribers, and over-the-moon brides.
Then covid hit right at the time many farms across the country were starting their flower seeds not knowing how or if they could sell a single stem. Some farms decided it wasn’t worth even planting a seed while others upped their production. I have to admit, I wobbled a bit until I decided even if I didn’t sell one flower I was going to plant every bloom that I could. If anything the photographs would phenomenal and I’d be one happy flower lady!
This is what happened.
Customers started coming and kept coming. There was a new sense of hunger, an almost urgency for nature and color took over, I could feel the energy vibrating in the air. Along with the floral notes of purchased bouquets, I could almost smell its flourishing, wanting fragrance. People’s eyes lit up behind their masks, I was thanked daily for selling beauty “during this time” when they came to purchase. And yes the photos are incredible!
I shouldn’t have been surprised, I mean after all nature and vibrant flowers are what I seek when I need answers or to feel a sense of belonging, -a sign that everything is gonna be alright. And you know what? Flowers never fail me. Further, they’ve been around since the dawn of mankind. They are so everywhere that we often take them for granted.
But not last year, and I have a feeling the same trend of people seeking floral wellness will remain for this season as well.
That is why I’m thrilled to able to offer a “BRAND NEW” event on our farm…

My friend Debra Prinzing of Slow Flowers defined Floral Wellness as
“An embrace of the therapeutic importance of flowers, both in our own environments and as a meaningful way to share with others. Floral Wellness nurtures a positive and habitual desire to have flowers in our lives and as an expression of our desire for others to also experience flowers’ emotional, physical, mental, and psychic value.”
