Tips on how to grow dahlias in Alaska

One of the questions I hear over and over from dahlia growers up here is how come my dahlias take forever to bloom?

There are a few factors that come into play.

First, as many of us know Alaska’s growing season is around 90 days, sometimes we get lucky and get maybe 120.

There are some dinner plate varities that take that long to bloom.

Second, we try to grow our dahlias like everyone else in other states.  This just doesn’t work up here if you want earlier flowering.
