A tremendous job from your heart
What is really cool about creating bouquets of flowers from your very own flower farm is you are apart of the entire process. You are literally taking your flowers from seed, to field to vase. Its where the term farmer/florist fits in perfectly and by what I can tell there are not many of us doing it. Although down in the states there seems to be a movement of farmer florists popping up everywhere. Which is fantastic since 78 percent of the 4 billion cut flower stems purchased in the U.S. — including the roses bought on Valentine’s Day come from Colombia and Ecuador where they are grown in large production greenhouses, then harvested, sorted and shipped out around the world.
I for one would like to see more US flowers on the market. This is one of the reasons why we did our first Flower Farm Tour & Workshop this last weekend to show our flower farm process. I shared a bit about how to plant Dahlia’s and then did a workshop where the tour participants learned how to make a mason jar flower frog and got to put together a small arrangement. Then we had Alaska Grown refreshments and snacks and did a drawing for large flower bouquet. Was a lot of fun and we can’t wait to do it again.
We are having another one Saturday August 22, from 10:30-12:30 here on our farm in Palmer.
Here is what a few had to say about the tour and workshop.
“Truly the highlight of my week! Thank you so much for the amazing farm tour. Your place is beautiful and the love and story you share is inspiring. I can’t think of a better way to escape the routine and enjoy a connection with nature. I loved the ambiance.” Sierra Hunsaker
“Misty this was so amazing. Your story is so touching and makes me want to fill my life with your dahlias. The length was perfect.” Angie Burns
“The workshop was a perfect combination of sensory delights! Sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. We got to meet new people in a small intimate group. There was a hands on workshops on how to make a beautiful bouquet. Misty you thought of and planned every detail. Thank you so much!” Saunders
“I believe you’ve done a tremendous job from your heart.” Lori Jacober
