    Dahlias have a really cool trait that makes them prime for growing in Alaska and that is they will keep blooming until the frost freezes them. Yes the cooler temps have them not blooming as much, but they are still more than beautiful. So if you can cover them when the nights start to get colder to protect them from freezing they keep blooming again and again.  Which is happening for us here at the farm.     Small, personal and relaxing

    When I set out to do the exclusive flower farm tour and workshops my aim was small groups of 10 or smaller to ensure a private touch the heart experience.  I wanted to keep them around two hours, provide information about growing dahlias in Alaska and have the participants to be able to take home their very own dahlia arrangements.  It was also important for me to drive the Alaska Grown lifestyle home and I thought what better way to do that then to share Alaska Grown Foods. And since I hadn’t ever had the workshops before I had to start somewhere.  I’m thrilled to say I’m pretty sure my goals were accomplished.…

    A tremendous job from your heart

    What is really cool about creating bouquets of flowers from your very own flower farm is you are apart of the entire process. You are literally taking your flowers from seed, to field to vase. Its where the term farmer/florist fits in perfectly and by what I can tell there are not many of us doing it. Although down in the states there seems to be a movement of farmer florists popping up everywhere. Which is fantastic since 78 percent of the 4 billion cut flower stems purchased in the U.S. — including the roses bought on Valentine’s Day come from Colombia and Ecuador where they are grown in large production greenhouses, then harvested, sorted and shipped…
